Davide signs a historic result at the 62nd edition of the 24 Hours of Daytona bringing the Prancing Horse back to the top step of the famous American endurance race ten years after the last time.
He flew to Florida with destination the Daytona tri-oval for the first act of the 2024 IMSA SportsCar Championship of America, along with Pierguidi, Calado and Serra he achieved his first season success at the wheel of the number 62 Ferrari 296 GT3 of the Risi Competizione team after completing 733 laps beating tough competition from Porsche and BMW.
Starting from the fifth position in the category with the best time of 1’44″831 in the first sixty minutes the classification is reshuffled following a first pit stop that affected all crews and two yellow flag regimes bringing the car number 62 in twelfth position also due to a Drive Through served by the Brazilian for not respecting the minimum time set for refueling, after he had quickly recovered three positions in the first half hour of the race bringing himself close to the leadership.
Making the most of the long period without yellow flags, the #62 crew began its comeback, arriving to lead the pack with a 17-second advantage as the halfway point of the race approached. Aided by timely work in the pits and at the wall, Davide and his teammates continued the close fight with their direct rivals, confirming their leadership even after the various pit stops. The fight with the Porsche 911 GT3 is open until half an hour from the checkered flag with the two crews just 10 seconds apart. There is still time for a yellow flag, but the pace of the Ferrari remains unchanged and at each lap it manages to gain 1″ crossing the finish line, at the stroke of the 24th hour of the race, with a 1 lap lead.
Davide Rigon: I am overjoyed to have finally won the race that opens the season every year. Until now I had only been on the top step of the podium at the 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, while here at Daytona and I had finished second three times. This result is a dream come true for me. We have prepared this race with great attention to every detail, on a journey that began a year ago, when we brought the new 296 GT3 to debut here. How did I experience the last hour of the 24 Hours? As is often the case in IMSA, the result was still open despite the great performance we had shown up to that point. The tension was as impressive as the joy I felt when Daniel crossed the finish line.
